Recently, the School decided to carry out the “Neverforget the original intension, Keep the mission in mind, Strive to be leadersand pioneers in the new era” Survey. On May 3, the group leader of seconduniversity party committee group, Ke Qinfei visited the School of Science tocarry out the survey with her group members. Besides, associate director of thecollege office Qin Feng and party and government group members of The School ofScience took part in the investigation.

Qiu Xiang, president of The School of Science, reportedthe work on behalf of the party and government group. On one hand, heintroduced the basic information of The School of Science, including itsdevelopment history, faculty, party construction, teaching,research(discipline), student work and cultural construction. On the otherhand, he reported key works carried out in the process of “College ThirteenthFive-Year plan”, especially those works which are being or about to be carriedout, including application of professional master program, cultivation ofMathematics master program, promotion of collaborative innovation platformconstruction, joint with National Semiconductor Lighting Engineering Center, “PeilingCup” young teachers’ teaching competition, certification of the major “OptoelectronicInformation Science and Engineering”, reform of Mathematical and Science basiccourses’ teaching, teacher encourage program and student employment. etc. Thereport not only referred to the problems met in the process of implement, butalso put forward some ideas and suggestions.

President Ke Qinfei affirmed the development and works ofThe School of Science in recent years after visiting The School of Science andlistening to the report of Qiu Xiang, President of The School of Science. Shepointed out that Shanghai Institute of Technology is a school which hasglorious history, so is The School of Science. Those alumni who have emerged inthe long process of development with unremitting efforts and perseverance aregreat material and spiritual treasure of the University and The School ofScience. In the new era, we should never forget our original intension and keepmission in mind. The purpose of the investigation was to understand the actualsituation and specific bottleneck problems in the development of each schoolsand departments more deeply. Only by this can we promote the smooth implementof The Thirteenth Five-Years Plan and achievements of each goal, and keepmoving towards the goal of constructing High-level Shanghai Institute ofTechnology with international influence, which requires everybody work andthink together and work towards the same goal.

According to specific problems of The School of Scienceencountered under the current work, the principal Ke Qinfei pointed out that weshould build the belief of “Human-Oriented” in all college works, especiallyput students in the center place in the talent cultivating works. The studentsnowadays are alumni in the near future. We should make them understand that thestudy and life experience of university will be the turning point in thebeginning of life. We should make them realize the importance of alma mater ontheir growth. Therefore, those works like student work, faculty construction,curriculum settings and improvement of teaching methods etc. concerningstudents’ growth and success show great importance. She pointed out that TheSchool of Science undertakes massive works of public mathematical and scienceteaching, as well as the glorious mission of laying a solid foundation ofmathematics and science and supporting applied technology. Teachers in TheSchool of Science have made many efforts in the back seat and contributions oncultivating excellent engineers. After 18 years’ undergraduate construction ofthe university, we established the overall goal of building a high-levelapplied university with international influence, which puts forward newrequirements for our future works.

In addition, the principal specifically guided recent andfuture works of The School of Science and offered some suggestions on some woksmainly about application of master program, construction of collaborativeinnovation platform, joint with National Semiconductor Lighting Engineering,reform of mathematical and science courses’ teaching, “Peiling Cup” youngteachers’ teaching competition and student employment. She pointed out that onone hand, we should complete the work of “Revolution”, which means we shouldprovide necessary mathematical knowledge foundation for the university tocultivate outstanding first-line engineers with innovative spirit and practicalability, because the development of Engineering needs the support of Science,such as cultivation of mathematical thought. On the other hand, major anddiscipline construction should be well done by ourselves by combining it withthe characteristics of The School of science, which lays emphasis on “Engineeringin a Science way” and enhancing the cultivation of young teachers’ teachingability. The “Peiling cup” Young Teachers’ Teaching Competition which is aboutto be carried out by The School of science is a good illustration of this. Weshould require all the young teachers to take part in the competition toimprove their own teaching ability. In the process of discipline construction,we need to focus on directions and missions. In the process of majorconstruction, more attention should be paid to dislocation and characteristicdevelopment. The final results of both should be clear and transparent.

In the end, principal Ke Qinfei made some demands onparty and college construction of The School of Science. She said that sinceshe began to work in the university, she had been impressed by the overallethos of the university as well as The School of Science. She hoped that theschool should further enhance the construction of party and college culturebecause the spirit, the ethos, and outside look of the school are veryimportant! Party construction should be centered on center woks of the school,by which can we maximize the effects. Besides, many teachers of The School ofScience are working and devoting in the back seat. The school should payattention to the propaganda work. This means that we should show the specificand highlight works and propagate advanced experiences and typical figures inthe process of the works on the basis of actual implement of works. We shouldconcentrate on the dig of “Peiling Floor” spirit and form positive, righteouscollege cultural, which will improve the spirit, the ethos, and outside look ofthe school gradually. It’s just like the more potential energy there is, thesmoother all aspects of the work will be.

Qiu Xiang, on behalf of the party and government group,thanked President Ke for visiting The School of Science to carry out theinvestigation and giving the right guidance on the bottleneck problems in thecurrent or future work. All of these suggestions are inspiring. Party andgovernment group of The School of Science will take the suggestions ofprincipal Ke into consideration and actually implement it in the future work.The group will unit and lead all the teachers and students of the school towork hard and put forward all the works of the school. Finally, we will makenew great contributions to the construction of high-level applicationtechnology university with international influence.
