On May 28th, the School of Science and the Department of Materials Technology held a special discussion meeting on the teaching reform of mathematics and physics public basic courses in Conference Room 231 of the Fourth Discipline Building, focusing on the deep integration of mathematics and physics basic courses and professional education in applied technology universities for in-depth exchanges. Fang Yongzheng, Director of the Department of Materials Technology, Chen Yong, Secretary of the Party Committee, Chen Lei, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Science, Xu Xiaoming, Vice Dean of Teaching, and other key teachers and student representatives from both sides attended the meeting and held a heated discussion on empowering the construction of material related majors through the reform of the public basic courses in mathematics and physics.

At the meeting, Chen Lei, the Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Science, first reported on the current situation of the reform of public basic course teaching, pointing out that in recent years, the School of Science has been guided by "connecting with industry needs, digital intelligence technology, and educational goals". While introducing the "knowledge graph+AI assistant" system to optimize the teaching of courses such as "Advanced Mathematics" and "University Physics", it has vigorously strengthened the communication and linkage between teachers of mathematical basic courses and professional teachers, and jointly built an industry case library, aiming to build a "solid foundation, strong practice, and integrated ideological and political" mathematical public basic course system.

Fang Yongzheng, Director of the Department of Materials Technology, introduced the teaching reform and professional construction of the department, emphasizing the special needs of majors such as Materials Science and Engineering, Integrated Circuit Materials, etc. for mathematical and physical foundations. He hoped that the basic courses would strengthen the cultivation of the ability to transform from theory to engineering, such as adding explanations of the principles of material characterization technology physics in "University Physics" and introducing the foundation of finite element analysis in "Advanced Mathematics". Chen Yong, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Faculty, suggested strengthening the design of the connection between basic courses and professional courses, and through "joint lesson preparation" and "project-based teaching", enabling students to establish a thinking habit of "using basic theories to solve practical problems" in advance.

In the interactive communication session, both teachers discussed in depth the mathematical modeling needs and specific course optimization of materials major students based on student feedback. Both parties agreed to establish a dynamic feedback mechanism for student needs in the future and continuously optimize teaching content. At the end of the meeting, both parties jointly clarified the next focus of reform: establishing a joint teaching and research mechanism of "mathematics and physics basic course teachers professional teachers", and conducting cross college lesson preparation meetings every semester to sort out the list of professional needs; Pilot the "project driven" teaching reform, optimize the curriculum evaluation system, and consider increasing the weight of "professional application ability" assessment.

This seminar marks the formation of a collaborative mechanism of "demand research, resource sharing, and talent cultivation" between both parties in the reform of public basic courses. In the future, we will continue to deepen the integration and innovation of basic courses and professional education, laying a solid foundation for the cultivation of applied technology talents in schools.
