Song Minjuan, deputy secretary of the university party committee, pointed out that the themeaning of this conversazione is to inherite and promote the philanthropism and patriotism showed by Mr. Zhan Shoucheng and his family. Zhang Shoucheng was the former principal of Shanghai Light Industry Technical College, which was one of the predecessor(three schools) of our university. He and his family practiced the patriotism thoroughly of Chinese intellectuals in the span of two centuries. He once bought advanced calculators used for mathematics purpose for his colleagues of the teaching and researching office and entrusted his reissued salaries in many years and all the pension to two colleagues to exclusively help those colleagues who actually have living problems; He set up the “Zhang Chunjun Charitable Donation” in the name of his mother, which benefited all the lonely elderly, part of the extremely poor elderly,extremely poor families and extremely poor outstanding students in the original Luwan district. His three children including Zhang Junshi, Zhan Junming and Zhan Junping, donated 1million Yuan to set up the special fund for helping women and children. The Confucius described his own ambition as “Give elderly peace, trust friends and care younger”. The principal Zhang Shoucheng inherits this Chinese excellent tradition. He inherited and promoted the humanity promoted by Confucianism. He makes the school warmer and makes the society more rejuvenated. Mr. Zhang Shoucheng and his family insist on donating money to students. Their love for students shows the philanthropic spirit. so far, Mr. Zhan and his family has donated over 6 million Yuan to schools and helped 521 impoverished students finish their study. Those who are poor but working hard feels the warmth in the winter. The deed that Mr. Zhang Shoucheng and his family helped students was named 2015 Shanghai Good Deeds of Socialist Spiritual Civilization, which was the only awarded deed. This kind of love has been a precious spiritual treasure for the development of the school and a spiritual monument towering in the heart of teachers and students. It is not only the best explanation of family tradition, but also the model of cultivating morality by all the teachers and students of the university. Mr. Zhan and his family insisted on  selfless dedication. His love for the nation shows the patriotism. When the Korean War started, Mr. Zhang denoted a fighter to the volunteers in the name of his family industry-“Jiangnan Paper Mill”. He said: I don’t know how to fight, but I know the volunteers need airplanes the most. I hope the fighter could protect people. During the Anti-Japanese War, his father, Mr.Zhan Peilin, told the Guangci Hospital: If you encounter the poor patient who is injured by the bomb, I will take charge of all of this. However, the family are thrift and calculative. It’s his family’s tradition which insists on caring others, being kind, being simple and being thrift to cultivate morality.

   Mr. song pointed out that these deeds of Mr. Zhan Shoucheng and his family showed the excellent Chinese culture history,philanthropic spirit, patriotism and “Pure Heart” of Confucianism. The general secretary, Xi Jinping, cited the “Never Forget the Initial Heart”and “Pure Heart” thought time after time. He pointed out that the initial heart of the party was the ideals of members of the party from the founding of the party. He pointed out that people are the foundation of the party and people own the power of the party. We must benefit people wholeheartedly. This is love, including the love for parents, the love for the family and the love for the unit, the society and the nation. This love is especially urgent in the university. The general secretary, Xi Jinping,said that “Love is the spirit of education, there will be no education without love”. The university is the last stop before students enter the society. The attitude and feeling of the students towards the society are cultivated in the university to a large extent. What needs to be emphasized is that we need those builders and successors who have not only excellent professional skills, but also outstanding moral characters and comprehensive quality, especially the philanthropic spirit. From tis perspective, the university’s attitudes toward students are also imperceptibly affecting the students’ characters. In a university immersed in love, the students are influenced and infected by love and have great possibilities to be constructors and successors who are patriotism and philanthropic. Mr. Zhan Shoucheng’s deeds in the aspects of “Being human, Being Studying, Being behaving” are highly consistent with the school’s motto “Learn to be moral, Learn to study, Learn to behave”. We should inherit and promote the philanthropic spirit of Mr. Zhan Shoucheng and his family, as well as firmly adhere to the faith, so that the easy-going style, the attitude of pursuing perfect, the personality of working hard and the spirit of keeping improving according to the era could motivate us continuously! We should keep moving to make contributions to construct high-level institute of technology and realize the dream of the Chinese about great rejuvenation of the nation.

   At the conversazione, Qiu Xiang made the report entitled “Tamping mathematical foundation and supporting applied technology”and introduced the overall situation of the college and recent key works. Chen Yong reported the recent construction of the party and the college    cultural in the college, especially the “exploration and inheritance of spirit connotation of Peilin building” and the ideological and political works of the course lead by the party. Several retired teachers from the College Physics teaching and researching office including Shao Ru, Guo Jiaxiang, Feng Yundao and Pan Jianshen, and teacher Zhang Xin shared their unforgettable experiences of working with Zhang Shoucheng. They said, Mr.Zhang Shoucheng is a man who is patriotism, school-loving, sincere and thrifty but generous to the country and education; During his work in the teaching and researching office, Mr. Zhan always advocated that teachers should constantly enhance their practical skills such as the ability to develop and maintain instruments, which Mr. Zhan practiced by himself. Mr. Zhang Shoucheng and his father Mr. Zhan Peilin also encountered many setbacks in their life, but these never changed his patriotism,school-loving and education-loving. He adhered to helping poor people and donating to education. The family tradition of Mr. Zhan Shoucheng is very strict. Hence his children inherited the glorious tradition of their parents and continued to donate to the “Zhan Shoucheng Scholarship” and “Zhang Shoucheng Education Foundation” of the university.
